Several years back you could not create object names with
more than about 8 characters. Therefore, you had to get creative with your
object names if you wanted them to have any meaning within the development
environment. Unfortunately, the end results were abbreviated, cryptic names that
complicated the program, making it more difficult to develop.
The good news is that, in newer software, the limits have
been increased and no longer present the challenges of years past. By using
full names, instead of abbreviations, your program will be easier to read and
your object names will have more meaning. Additionally, you will speed up
development since you won't need to constantly convert object names to their
abbreviated form. It is much easier to program using names like dtCreationDate
or dtDateCreated than a name like dtCrDt.
